Shade-Router Tempe: Visualizing the Intersection of Heat and Safety

A 3D immersive web map exploring how urban form, tree canopy, and shade equity intersect with traffic safety in Tempe, Arizona.

This project began as an agentic programming experiment to see what was possible at the intersection of AI and urban planning. After brainstorming, I decided to visualize traffic safety in Tempe by mapping car crashes alongside 3D buildings, trees, and simulated shade. Using Deck.gl and MapLibre, I layered these datasets to explore potential correlations between urban form and safety. While I have limited experience with GIS, building this "digital twin" in a single day provided me with a hands-on introduction to how geospatial data is structured and synthesized.
